RDF participation at the Regional Workshop for Strategic Planning for Biodiversity Conservation


From 17 to 20 October, a regional seminar for biodiversity conservation was organized in Istanbul by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity in collaboration with the Ministry of Forestry and Water Works of the Republic of Turkey, and Akmatova Kuluipa, the coordinator of traditional knowledge programs, from RDF participated in it.

The workshop aimed to strengthen national capacities to develop and update the National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans, as well as their implementation at the national level in the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020.

Other participants of the seminar included the representatives of Central Asian countries from various sectors, namely government offices, public organizations, local communities, and experts in the field of biodiversity. They reviewed the goals and objectives of the Protocol of the Convention, analysed the level of development and implementation of plans to improve biodiversity in different countries, and discussed on the implemented actions and directions. They also shared their experiences to develop a preliminary strategic plan for the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity as a whole.

Akmatova Kuluipa, as a representative of RDF and the public sector of, presented RDF’s activities, implemented projects, interaction with communities, and local opportunities. Participation in this event was a good opportunity for RDF not only to share knowledge and spread information about its activities, but also to gain new experience and knowledge in the field of biodiversity in order to further strengthen and develop capacity in this area in Kyrgyzstan.
