National workshop on Approach to Participatory Management of Natural Resources in Bishkek


On 18 November, 2010, the national workshop on the project results on “Approach to Participatory Management of Natural Resources”, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), took place in the conference hall at Jannat Hotel, Bishkek.

The project aimed to develop a concrete approach to manage conflicts over natural resources in two border communities of Ak-Say and Ak-Tatyr in Batken oblast. During the workshop, there were presentations on the key findings from the research analysis on the causes and impacts of multiple conflicts within these border communities. The project had chosen these two communities as pilot sites to mitigate potential conflicts, and has identified conflict hotspots in the target area through community mapping. It then introduced an initiative to develop and implement communal plan for conflict management, and provided micro grant programmes whose results were also presented during the workshop.

The participants of the workshop were the representatives of governmental agencies and civil society, as well as international and local organizations, and the workshop was organised by Rural Development Fundand the Pasture Department of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic.
