Launching a micro-grant program to strengthen women's capacity to rebuild peace

In May 2011, under the project "Strengthening the Capacity of Women and Vulnerable Groups of Communities to Restore Peace and Harmony in Kyrgyzstan", Rural Development Fund launched a sub-grant program that is provided to members of the Network of Women Peacemakers of Kyrgyzstan in Batken, Jalal-Abad and Osh oblasts. The program is focused on increasing the role of women and vulnerable groups in communities in decision-making processes, in pre-empting and resolving inter-ethnic conflicts.

Within the framework of the project, 11 micro-project proposals have been supported for funding and will soon start their implementation. The total amount of micro-projects is more than 2.3 million soms, of which more than 1.8 million soms were provided by the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund.

Under the sub-grant program, which will be implemented in two stages until mid-September 2011, micro-grants were provided to support activities related to the resolution and mitigation, prevention and reduction of inter-ethnic and social conflicts.
