ILC ASIA Regional Assembly 2013

The International Land Coalition (Asia Regional Platform) Annual Members’ Assembly was held at the Chinggis Khaan Hotel in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, from 7 to 9 September 2013. The International Land Coalition is a global alliance of civil society and intergovernmental organizations working together to promote secure and equitable access to and control over land for poor women and men through advocacy, dialogue and capacity building.

Members include the UN and Bretton Woods institutions, multilateral organizations, producer and farmer organizations, research institutions, trade unions, NGOs and community-based organizations. The ILC Asia Regional Assembly was organized by one of its members in Mongolia, the Association for Environment and Development “JASIL”, in collaboration with the Asian NGO Coalition for Agrarian Reform and Development (ANGOC) headquartered in the Philippines and the Agrarian Reform Consortium (KPA) Indonesia, under the overarching theme of “Regional Land Integration to Support Rights and Security in Asia”.

The Regional Assembly was attended by 38 ILC Asia members from Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, Mongolia, the Philippines, Kyrgyzstan and Thailand. The main objective of this Assembly is to contribute to the implementation of the strategic objectives of ILC projects so that rural women and men can gain safe and equitable access and control over land in order to increase their food security and overcome poverty and vulnerability.

The Rural Development Fund (RDF) also took part in the Assembly from Kyrgyzstan. RDF became a member of the ILC in 2012 and was given the opportunity to implement a mini-project to conduct a study on women's access to pastures and pasture resources. The project coordinator on traditional knowledge, Kuluipa Akmatova, made a presentation on the topic of "Women's access to pastures in the Kyrgyz Republic" and participated in discussions on the exchange of experience, where great interest was aroused in the topic of using traditional knowledge in the management of pastures and pasture resources.
