Increasing the capacity of local governments and Water Users’ Associations in effective interaction and water resource management


On 25, 28 and 30 November, 2011, the final forums will be held in Osh, Jalal-Abad and Batken to discuss the results of the activities implemented by RDF for the project, “Strengthening the capacity of local governments of Batken, Jalal-Abad and Osh regions to reduce conflict potential through effective resource management”. We carried out the project activities to study and identify the factors of effective interactions between local governments and Water Users’ Associations (WUAs) in order to implement successful practices of water resource management in 102 rural communities of Osh, Jalal-Abad and Batken regions of the Kyrgyz Republic.

As part of the project, RDF developed training materials, conducted training for representatives of rural communities, and provided support for further mentor training in the neighbouring wards of rural communities.

At the forums the project participants will be able to hold a joint discussion on the results of the project’s activities, including their successes, achievements, difficulties, lessons learned during the project implementation, and future prospects. This event will invite the representatives of National Agency of the Kyrgyz Republic for Local Government Affairs (NAMSU), the State Committee on Water Management and Land Reclamation, the Water Users Association, local governments, donor organizations, and local media.

Forums will be held:

On 25 November in the conference hall of Osh-Nuru Hotel, 1 Bayalinov Street, Osh;

On 28 November at Tagay-Biy Complex, 13 Zhenizhok, Jalal-Abad;

and

On 30 November at the house of children’s creativity, Meerim, 3 Salikhova Street, Batken.
