Dissemination of Kyrgyz Traditional Knowledge and Support for the Joint Management of Mountain Ecosystems in the Kyrgyz Republic

Dissemination of Kyrgyz Traditional Pastoral and Ecological Knowledge and Support to the Community for the Joint Management of Mountain Ecosystems in the Kyrgyz Republic

Kyrgyz people obtained knowledge from nature and lived in harmony with the world around them, without harming vegetation and the earth. Modern Kyrgyz people continue using the knowledge of their ancestors, however, many practices and traditions have been lost or changed. Today in Kyrgyzstan there are only a few people who know the culture, lifestyle, traditions and customs of the Kyrgyz people. In order to revive and disseminate traditional pastoral and ecological knowledge, RDF launched a project "Dissemination of Kyrgyz Traditional Pastoral and Ecological Knowledge and Support to the Community for the Joint Management of Mountain Ecosystems in the Kyrgyz Republic."

Project timeline: June 1, 2013 - May 31, 2015

Place of implementation: 7 regions of the Kyrgyz Republic, territories of residence of ethnic Kyrgyz in the PRC, Tajikistan
