GEF Project to Develop a COMDEKS Landscape and Seascape Strategy

In 2025, RDF started the Community Development and Knowledge Management for the Satoyama Initiative (COMDEKS) program aimed at strengthening the resilience of landscapes and enhancing the social and economic development of local communities. To implement this program, it was proposed to develop a COMDEKS Country Landscape-Seascape Strategy, which was based on a situational assessment that taking into account threats such as increased pressure on ecosystems due to population and production and economic activities, irrational use of natural resources, unsustainable natural resource management practices, poor diversification of agro-production systems, climate change, degradation of resources and biodiversity, deterioration of the socio-economic situation of local communities, and other threats.

The target landscape within the COMDEKS framework is the coastal area of the Issyk-Kul region, since this territory is considered a specially protected natural area of national importance.

The Country Landscape-Seascape Strategy is being implemented through the Small Grants Program. The main beneficiaries are community-based organisations, local non-governmental organisations and local communities.
